Why Does Spotify Give Me So Many Ads?

Spotify is a popular free and paid music streaming service that lets users create playlists, listen to albums, artists and songs. It has a wide variety of options for users, from the ability to connect with friends and make playlists collaboratively to personalized recommendations based on their listening history. In addition to the aforementioned features, Spotify has also incorporated Philips Hue integration, which allows you to control your home lights with your music.

However, one of the key issues people have with Spotify is how often it shows ads. Normally, ad-supported Spotify users will experience an ad every 2/3 songs. This isn’t uncommon, and it helps Spotify generate revenue to continue to operate as a free service.

On the other hand, premium subscribers pay a monthly fee for access to ad-free Spotify. This allows Spotify to push users towards a subscription, but it can be annoying for those who already have an ad-blocking app installed or simply aren’t willing to spend $9.99 per month on an ad-free tier of a service they consider to be ad-free.

While Spotify doesn’t serve audio ads that interrupt the music-listening experience for its Premium users, some podcasts feature advertising or host-read endorsements and sponsorship messages. Additionally, Spotify’s Discover page displays “Music Announcements” which are not technically ads but can be frustrating for users who want to see a clean and streamlined Discovery page. These announcements can be hidden by editing the Spotify app’s preferences.
