How to Delete Goals in Google Analytics

Whether it’s a dated goal that no longer makes sense or an old-fashioned, misnamed goal, many people wonder if there is a way to delete goals in google analytics. In fact, it is not possible to permanently delete goals in GA; they can only be deactivated or renamed. This may sound like a limitation, especially if you want to remove a goal that is no longer relevant or has not been converted, but it’s not without good reason. Deleting goals would skew historical goal conversion data and would leave you without a full picture of your website’s performance.

As a general rule, you can create up to 20 goals per view in Google Analytics. Depending on your needs, you might want to consider creating separate views for different departments or traffic types. Having multiple views allows you to easily segment your goals by the data that matters most to you, which can be helpful for reporting and analysis.

To create a new goal, log into your Google Analytics account and select the property you’d like to add a goal to. Then click on “+ NEW GOAL” to create your goal. Choose your goal type (destination, duration, pages/screens per session or event), fill out the information and save. You can also share your goal with others by clicking on the ‘share template link’ or ‘share in solution gallery’ buttons.
