When you first created your TikTok account, the app asked you to select interests. This will help the algorithm decide what kinds of videos you might enjoy seeing on your FYP. However, TikTok doesn’t stop here, and you can continue to fine-tune what shows up on your page by doing things like liking videos or following accounts. The company has also started to add features meant to give users more information about how the algorithm works.
It’s important to regularly unlike content you don’t want to see anymore. This will signal to the app that it isn’t something you’re interested in, and it might start to push less of it to your For You page. Another good idea is to follow creators that you enjoy watching. Doing so can help the app suggest more of their content to you.
If you’re finding that you’re getting lots of videos from the same people, try using a few different hashtags. This can help the algorithm find new creators that you might not have heard of before.
If you’re worried about the amount of data that TikTok uses on your phone, there is a way to reset the app and essentially start fresh. Open the app and click on your profile image in the bottom right corner. You’ll see a menu icon that says “Free up space.” Tap on this and then click Clear.
