How Often Does Google Lye?

Almost 8.5 billion searches go through Google each day. It controls the world’s most popular browser and the operating systems of many smartphones, tablets and laptops. It also produces physical products like the Pixel smartphone line, Chromecast in-home streamer and Nest smart home device as well as services such as YouTube, Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Sheets & Slides, Google Fonts and more. It collects data from every click, tap and query on its services and devices and earns tens of billions a year from them. But it is not without its critics who claim that the company’s algorithms are biased and rigged.

Google was founded in 1995 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin when they were both still students at Stanford University. Their original search engine used links to rank pages on the Internet. By 1998 they had secured $100,000 in funding and were producing Google search results 200 million times a day. Their trademarked name was inspired by a googol, the number equal to one followed by 100 zeros. The name soon became so popular that it entered the lexicon as a verb, meaning “to search on Google.”

Today, Google is worth more than $800 billion and is the most widely used search engine in the world. It has numerous business branches, from advertising to cloud storage and even self-driving cars. It’s also a huge influencer in the political arena, often accused of bias by Conservatives who feel that it tilts the balance against their viewpoints.
